Utensils as pots, vases and teacups are created. The selected material is cast porcelain and they are made through slip casting method. The central theme of the work is the concept of nature, not as a realistic representation but rather as an inspiration of the creative process for each work. Cast porcelain creates serendipitous chromatic combinations, emerging naturally during the working process. As a result, colour follows the natural movement of liquid porcelain.
The work is inspired by collage and nerikomi techniques. Nerikomi is Japanese term and is an artistic technique for creating patterns with colored clay. It could remind you the preparation of sushi, if you imagine the different ingredients as the different colored clay. The material of choice is parian porcelain, a high quality porcelain imitating marble. Some utensils and jewelries are created with abstract geometrical motives while others have themes inspired by several different traditions. For instance, the “evil eye” is present in Greek tradition and other cultures. It is believed that if you receive the “evil eye” as a supernatural force will cause misfortune. For that, the talisman is created to protect against the “evil eye”.
A limited production of functional and aesthetic objects are created in Pyroga ceramic workshop. They are made with care by high quality stoneware and porcelain, by using traditional and contemporary craft techniques. The goal is to inspire the users respect for their daily life actions. By using objects that we like for our everyday acts we are trying to achieve a ceremonial perspective. For insteance, the neti pot is a device that people use to clear out their nasal passages. The process to clear nasal passages by salt water is usually a quick unpleasant action. However, it could be possible to achieve a meaningful ritual if we would spend time to beautify it
